The relationship between Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal and defender Marcos Rojo has not always looked cosy over the past few months.
But the Dutchman came to the defence of the Argentina international at his press conference yesterday evening.
The former Spartak Moscow man was coming under fire from Russian journalists ahead of United’s game against City rivals CSKA.
For example, one reporter asked Wayne Rooney how often he goes past Rojo in training, noting that everybody in Russia went past him during his time at Spartak.
Van Gaal opted to sing Rojo’s praises.
He said: “What I like is that he is physically a very strong guy, he’s a good header and his pass is fast – that we need always, we need a high speed in our possessional game.”
